September 2026 – Tamarix Equity Partners, a trusted partner to family and founder-owned businesses across North America, announced a strategic equity investment in The Halal Shack (“Halal Shack”) to support the company’s continued growth as a leading foodservice provider to higher education and adjacent categories.
Founded in 2017, Halal Shack has built a platform of four fast-growing restaurant brands – Halal Shack, Jamal’s Chicken, Baba’s Pizza, and Damor Chai Café – that offer approachable menus with mass appeal while supporting unique dietary needs. Led by CEO and founder Jamal Rasoully, Halal Shack has rapidly grown its footprint to more than 75 locations on 60+ college campuses.
“Halal Shack is a differentiated platform built on great food and operational excellence. We are pleased to partner with its founder, Jamal Rasoully, assisting him in growing the business,” said Mark Hauser, Managing Partner at Tamarix.
“We look forward to expanding Halal Shack and its various brands across higher education and beyond,” said Jay Sprague, Principal at Tamarix.
Mr. Rasoully will continue to lead the business. Tamarix will leverage its experience within fast-casual franchising to support the platform’s continued development.
Jamal said, “Our team is thrilled to partner with Tamarix. Their experience, know-how, and resources will help Halal Shack continue to mature as a platform, enabling us to deliver healthy, delicious meals to more happy customers across the country.”
